If you are hosting Thanksgiving this year, you may be wondering how to cook your turkey. Here is a recipe that will walk you through the steps of preparing and cooking your turkey for Thanksgiving. You can look at this as an outline for what to do when the time comes to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner!  The first thing that needs to happen is thawing out the turkey in the refrigerator so it can defrost based on its weight about 5-6 hours per pound. Then, take out all necessary ingredients from the fridge and set them on the counter so they are ready to go when needed later on in preparation. Make sure there’s enough space because once everything starts coming together, things get really hectic really fast!

ROAST TURKEY RECIPE

Directions

  1. Wash the turkey and brine according to your choice of brine mix sold in the groceries. (usually takes 8 to 18 hours)
  2. Wash the turkey thoroughly. Wash the inside cavity and rinse thoroughly, allowing lots of water to run through the turkey.
  3. Dry well with a cloth.
  4. Baste with butter and season all over with salt and pepper.
  5. Preheat the oven to 325°F
  6. Lay the turkey breast side up, on a rack in a shallow roasting pan and roast the turkey at 13 minutes per pound for an unstuffed turkey. (an average 15-pound turkey for Thanksgiving is cooked for 3 hours and 15 minutes)
  7. Baste skin every 30 minutes with butter to prevent drying.
  8. Loosely cover with a foil and remove during the last 30 minutes of roasting time.
  9. Check the internal temperature of the turkey to be sure that the turkey is safe to eat.
  10. Serve and enjoy with your friends or family.
